Cascia è conosciuta in tutto il mondo per aver dato i natali a Santa Rita da Cascia, ma è anche una cittadina immersa in una natura incontaminata e meta per l'escursionismo e per il turismo sportivo.
Antico centro fondato nel VI sec. a.C., conobbe l’avvicendarsi di Umbri, Etruschi, Sabini e Romani. Venne poi occupata dai Goti, dai Longobardi e quindi dai Saraceni nel IX sec. Divenne Comune nel XII secolo, periodo delle dispute tra guelfi e ghibellini, nel quale nasceva Santa Rita. Fu caposaldo dello Stato Pontificio fino al 1860. La città presenta numerose testimonianze del passato, fra le quali la chiesa in stile gotico di S. Francesco, del 1424, con numerosi affreschi. Uscendo dalla Porta Orientale si trova la chiesa di S. Antonio Abate, ricostruita tra il XIV sec., con annesso l’ex monastero Benedettino. Rientrando da Porta Leonina, troviamo la Collegiata di S. Maria edificata VI sec., mentre da via Santa Chiara si raggiunge la mèta di pellegrinaggio mondiale del Santuario di Santa Rita con adiacente il Monastero del XII secolo. Posta sulla sommità del colle c’è la chiesa di Sant’Agostino, la più antica, costruita nel 1059.

An ancient town founded in the 6th century BC, it has seen the succession of Umbrians, Etruscans, Sabines, and Romans. It was then occupied by the Goths, the Lombards, and then the Saracens in the 9th century. It became a municipality in the 12th century, a period of disputes between the Guelphs and Ghibellines, during which Saint Rita was born. It was a stronghold of the Papal States until 1860. The town boasts numerous vestiges of its past, including the Gothic-style church of San Francesco, dating from 1424, with numerous frescoes. Exiting through the Eastern Gate is the church of Sant'Antonio Abate, rebuilt in the 14th century, with the former Benedictine monastery adjoining it. Returning through Porta Leonina, we find the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria, built in the 6th century. From Via Santa Chiara, we reach the world-famous pilgrimage site of the Sanctuary of Santa Rita, with its adjacent 12th-century monastery. Perched atop the hill is the Church of Sant'Agostino, the oldest church, built in 1059.
